So, which is it?
This story talks about how the ocean plays a significant role in how the Earth as a whole absorbs carbon dioxide.
"The lesson is that abrupt changes in ocean circulation in the past have affected the oceans' ability to keep carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere," geologist Thomas Marchitto of the University of Colorado said in a news release. "This could help us understand how that ability might be affected by future global warming."
Then
the story right below it tells us how little the impact from the ocean is on global warming.
Because the carbon often never reaches the deep ocean, where it can be stored and prevented from re-entering the atmosphere as a greenhouse gas, the oceans may have little impact on climate change, the National Science Foundation said Friday in a release. I ask again; which is it?
