Moscow Is Awash In Oil

I guess they love their oil in Moscow. Actually, I just enjoy this website.

Moscow River 1
People of Moscow, Russia are fond of their small rivers in the city downtown, like this one, the Yauza river. Also it has been said that 90% of Russian money are in Moscow and 90% of that 90% is in Moscow downtown, and people who manage 90% of Russian money I bet love oil most of all, so they decided to decorate their river with their adorable stuff?

I wonder if that is true?

Even though Putin seems to be manipulating the system, Russia looks to be flourishing under a free market economy. Here is a picture of Moscow City, an urban development plan underconstruction for the past few years.

All they need to do is keep the oil out of the water.

Ted Turner Has Officially Lost It

Ted Turner, on the Charlie Rose program the other night, has a very strong opinion on global warming.

Ted Turner argued that inaction on global warming “will be catastrophic” and those who don't die “will be cannibals.” He also applied moral equivalence in describing Iraqi insurgents as “patriots” who simply “don't like us because we've invaded their country” and so “if the Iraqis were in Washington, D.C., we'd be doing the same thing.” On not taking drastic action to correct global warming:

Here are some other interesting things he has said in the past:

"Christianity is a religion for losers," he once said. On another occasion, Turner joked that the pope should step on a landmine. Seeing CNN employees wearing ashes on their forehead on Ash Wednesday, he remarked, "What are you, a bunch of Jesus freaks? You ought to be working for Fox." He is so viscerally uncomfortable with the Christian faith that he blamed his divorce from his third wife, Jane Fonda, partly on her decision to become a practicing Christian.

He has certainly made his mind up on a few things, hasn't he?

Gore Starts his Ad Blitz

Al Gore is getting the ball rolling on a $300 million ad campaign.

The advocacy group behind this is We Can Solve it. Here are a few FAQ'S from their website.

What is Global Warming?

The problem is that over the last century, we humans have been releasing more and more carbon dioxide and other heat-trapping gases into the atmosphere when we burn fuels and cut down forests. These additional gases have upset the natural balance of our atmosphere, trapping more heat than is healthy for the Earth.

The result is human-caused global warming, which brings serious threats from increased flooding to the spread of disease to the disruption of agriculture in many parts of the world.

Scientists tell us that stopping global warming is urgent -- we have just a few years to turn around the growth of greenhouse gas emissions in order to avoid the worst effects. The good news is that we can achieve these emissions reductions with effective national policies and international treaties. We must insist that businesses and governments join individuals around the world to greatly increase energy efficiency, widely adopt renewable energy, and commit to stopping climate change. Success is possible, but we need your help.

How much will it cost to solve?

The IPCC has estimated that stabilizing the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere at levels that will limit long-term temperature rise to a few degrees will slow the rate of global economic growth by only about a tenth of a percent per year. Based on the expected growth rate of the global economy, that is about equivalent to the world reaching the expected 2030 economic levels in 2031 in return for preventing the worst effects of the climate crisis.

Fortunately, we have the tools we need to start on the path to a stable climate. Fuel-efficient vehicles and higher efficiency appliances; advanced wind turbines, next-generation solar photovoltaics and other renewable energy technologies; proven strategies to protect threatened forests; communities making it easier for people to walk and bike. These are just a few of the common sense solutions that will not only reduce global warming, but can save us money and create new business opportunities.

Can't wait to get started! How about you? We only have a few years to turn this thing around!

Understanding Global Warming Graphs

This should be required reading for all citizens who believe all the chart data they see showing how bad global warming is.
Most people don't actually look at the chart numbers on the side, they just see the huge jumps.

Talks Start On New Version Of Kyoto

Since Kyoto was basically a failure, everybody is sitting down again to come up with a better plan. Whatever...

Organizers of the U.N.-led talks — mapped out at a massive conference in Bali in December — urged delegates to work quickly to ensure action before the worst effects of global warming such as extreme weather become unavoidable.
"With the 2009 deadline, we have just one and half years in which to complete negotiations on what will probably be the most complex international agreement that history has ever seen," said Yvo de Boer, U.N. climate change executive secretary. "And I'm confident that it can be done."

The U.N. actually believes that a plan needs to be nailed down by 2009 or all inhabitants of the Earth will die from "extreme weather".
I am so tired of the hysterical view of the U.N. I think it is more of an ego-trip for the U.N. to get an agreement ratified than the idea of any good that the agreement could bring.
