Once again, it is proven that those who are in charge of the environment are
just as corrupt as the rest of government.
On Dec. 12, the state Air Resources Board approved sweeping new rules governing diesel emissions, winning applause from environmentalists around the nation who said that once again California was blazing a path for the world.
Within days, however, a Union-Tribune editorial writer had confirmed allegations that Hien T. Tran – the lead scientist and coordinator of the study used to justify the stringent new diesel regulations – had falsely claimed to have a Ph.D. in statistics from the University of California Davis.
As usual, the media is not interested in covering the story.
But isn't this, well, news? Of course it is. The fact of Tran's deception has been confirmed by UC Davis, which says he doesn't have the Ph.D. in statistics he claimed. The air board said it is now investigating Tran's work. The governor's office said it wants a thorough investigation.
But in the newsroom of California, the spike is out again. A Nexis hunt shows not a word has been written about this in the state's newspapers outside of the U-T.
This really comes as no surpise though. As the article states, this is not the first time scandal has hit, yet the media can't be found. Just another day in California.
