The Chamber Of Commerce Not Making Any Friends

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has a disagreement with the Obama administration about their climate policy and now members are quiting because of it. The most recent of which is Apple.

"We strongly object to the Chamber’s recent comments opposing the EPA’s effort to limit greenhouse gases…Apple supports regulating greenhouse gas emissions, and it is frustrating to find the Chamber at odds with us in this effort. We would prefer the Chamber take a more progressive stance on this critical issue and play a constructive role in addressing the climate crisis. However, because the Chamber’s position differs so sharply with Apple’s, we have decided to resign our membership effective immediately."

You kinda have too expect it when Al Gore sits on Apple's board.

The Chamber of Commerce responded pointedly a short time later:

"The U.S. Chamber believes that climate change must be addressed. The Chamber is a consensus-driven organization and welcomes input from any company that wants to work on a comprehensive approach to reduce greenhouse gases. While we’ll continue to represent the broad majority of our membership on this goal, we recognize that there are some companies who stand to gain more than others with the current options on the table."

   Can't argue with that.

Five Worst Eco-Movies Ever Made

Here is a list put together by MNN (the Mother Natue Network) of the five worst environmental movies ever put on the big screen. Unsurprisingly, Steven Seagal makes the list twice.

5. Silver City, 2004

4. The Day After Tomorrow, 2004

3. Fire Down Below, 1997

2. Category 7: The End of the World, 2005

   And the number one selection...

1. On Deadly Ground, 1994

Watch this intriguing clip where Mr. Seagal tells it like it is. It's about the profits!

Anniversary Of The WTO Seattle Protests

On November 30th of this year will be the 10 year anniversary of the wild protests at the World Trade Organizations in Seattle in 1999.
At BeyondTalk.Net (a group of environmental Activism supporters) want you to sign up for demonstrations at the summit this year to promote more awareness of climate change.

Reading through their site, I came across this statement:

On November 30, on the 10th annniversary of the non-violent shut-down of the WTO meeting in Seattle, and one week before the beginning of the Copenhagen climate negotiations, we are calling for a full activation of the campaign. Are you getting ready?

Non-violent? That wasn't how I remember it. And neither does this CNN report form Seattle:

SEATTLE (CNN) -- A curfew went into effect late Tuesday, as Washington Governor Gary Locke called up unarmed units of the state's National Guard to help keep a lid on anti-World Trade Organization protests that turned violent. Police from cities as far away as Spokane also are being sent to help.

Seattle Mayor Paul Schell has declared a state of civil emergency and imposed a 7 p.m. to 7:30 a.m (10 p.m. EST - 10:30 a.m. EST) curfew on downtown areas of the city after violent scenes during street protests scuttled the planned opening ceremonies of the conference.

"It was chaos in the streets," said Jerry Jasinowski, president of the National Association of Manufacturers, who is attending the conference.

"I was struck by how loopy some of the protesters were," he told CNN. "I expected a more serious group that had some message ... but they didn't. They were sort of dancing in the streets, pushing people, acting crazy, breaking windows and throwing things. So it looked like a group that was out of control."

It's possible that this type of activism lies somewhere between violence and civil disobedience. And that is what it is about;  more so than trying to change climate legislation anyway.

Protesting Whole Foods

Who would have thought that the CEO of Whole Foods would be someone who isn't bought and sold by the environmental movement. Yet he has been in trouble recently for things he has said about the current health care debate.

"A careful reading of both the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution will not reveal any intrinsic right to health care, food or shelter."

Of course he is correct, but because of that "draconian" statement, he is getting lots of flack from the enviro-mob.

I am not quite sure what to think of thier methods, but one thing was clear from the video; the guy playing the tuba was a little flat.

They may be right. Problem is, since the scene is on this video clip, I just got spared having to watch the rest of the movie.
